Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the bedroom floor of my house in the countryside of northen Spain, near Bilbao.

Time

I would say that I took this around 5:00pm, when I arrive home every evening. I say this because that is when I check my email. I must have seen the email talking about this contest and straight away the ideas must of been bouncing around in my head.

Lighting

I wanted the photo to give out a sort of "old" and "forgotten" vibe, so i decided to place it by the huge window in my bedroom, It was a very bright day, and just like i wanted it to, the sunlight shined through the window, lighting up all of the dust particles that rested on the robot and the floor around it.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D5200 camera with my Nikon 15-105mm lens to take this shot.

Inspiration

The second I saw the email advertising this competition in my inbox, I not only saw a brilliant opportunity, but also a very creative and interesting challenge to atempt to fulfil. So straight away I grabbed my camera and started searching through my shelves and old toy boxes for inspiration. I tried various different settings, toys and ideas, but I found that this one was my favourite.

Editing

Like in most of my photos, very little editing was done. I upmade the photograph B&W, before using my limited photoshop knowledge to mess ever so slightly with the shadows and brightness.

In my camera bag

I only own the one camera and lens, so I would probably have them. I also try to bring an extra SD card with me, in case one gets full, but most of the time I forget...

Feedback

I believe that to take nice shots, all you need is a good eye and creativity. Always have your camera at the ready, looking for a nice shot. When it comes to taking the photo, I believe that lighting is probably the most important element, because it can change the look of the image completely. If you manage to master lighting, your photographs will look better then before.
