I took this picture at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota USA.Time
This picture was taken mid day.Lighting
The lighting in this picture was kind of bright that day, however, with the use of an overhang from the building it allowed me to photograph this eagle in brighter lighting to prevent harsh shadows. I normally do not like to shoot at high noon with the sun at peak levels in the sky.Equipment
I used my Cannon 10D SLR. I was not allowed to used a tripod in this facility at the time, so I had to hand hold it. I used a smaller aperture so that I could blur the background more.Inspiration
Since this is our national bird for America it was easy to want to photograph this Bald Eagle. I have a passion for eagles of all kinds, but the Bald Eagle is extra special to me. I personally know this Bald Eagle by name, so a few times a year I go down there to photograph her. Her name is Harriet. She is a Bald Eagle that was injured by a car several years ago. She was brought to the National Eagle Center for surgery and healing. Due to her internal injuries she will never get a head of snow white feathers. Each year after her injuries I have photographed her to see how she has grown and progressed. She is a love of mine and will always be a favorite eagle of mine until her time here on earth is over. She is a very sweet bird. However, she is a wild bird and you always have to be on the alert and not stand to close to her.Editing
I did not do any processing on this picture. In my camera bag
I normally use a Cannon 10D DSLR. I have several other lenses in my bag such as a wide angle, macro, 500mm telephoto lens. I use different types of filters at times such as a ND, polarizer, star, diffussion and several other ones. I carry with me at all times extra batters, compact flash cards, battery charger for the wall and for my car. I have a cable release, and a sturdy tripod, some sand bags for areas that are not level and a tripod can not be used.Feedback
I would recommend using a tripod to get a crisp clear picture, a cable release, and no how to use your shutter speed and aperture in order to achieve this look. A large aperture meaning a 5.6 and a fast shutter speed is helping to achieve this type of picture.
