Location
The photo was taken during my vacation last summer. It shows a traditional Croatian boat of the 16th called "Condura Croatica". It is exposed at the entrance to the port of Nin, a small town founded in the 9th century BC, near Zadar.Time
It was around 9 pm, about 15-20 minutes after sunset, my favourite time of day for photography.Lighting
The lighting was as you see it. Dark blue sky combined with orange street lights was a part of the concept from the start. The boat as a motive was self-imposed. Red light in the right middle and green colour of sea water in the lower part of the picture (which comes from the spotlight illuminating the ship) were a bonus.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 600D with a 18-55 lens and a Sony tripod.Inspiration
The whole last summer I photographed the Croatian coast and other natural and cultural sights as part of the annual contest sponsored by National Geographic Croatia. A slightly different version of this photo came in to the final of the contest and was published in National Geographic Croatia calendar for the month of August 2014.Editing
I almost always do post-processing on my photos and this one was no exception. I did some cropping, colour balancing, sharpening and used a few graduated filters both in Photoshop and Lightroom. In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Canon 600D, 18-55 and 55-250 Canon lenses, a few filters, MeiKe flash and a tripod.Feedback
Always keep your eyes wide open. Whenever possible take at least the basic equipment with you. A good photo is anywhere and at any time. Master your camera and equipment so you can be sufficiently relaxed on shootings. Only then can you free your talent to express itself and open yourselves to the flow of inspiration.
