Location
I took this photo at a disused military munitions factory while shooting a selection of wedding dresses for a client.Time
The shot was taken about mid-day, I wanted the sun to be best placed to not overpower the windows.Lighting
I used a small portable generator and one Elencrome studio light, powered from the generator.Equipment
I used a Nikon D700, I always have a tripod but never get round to using it as I LIKE TO KEEP MOVING AND THE TRIPOD SLOWES ME DOWN TO MUCH.Inspiration
My client just needed photos of her wedding dress collection, but I did not want to do the normal pretty shot. I think the dress and model look great against the grungy background.Editing
I always start my RAW process through Lightroom and the image was finished in On1.In my camera bag
I always carry several primes, 50, 80 and 105mm.Feedback
I think more photographers should stop fretting over gear and settings and start concentrating on improving their artistic eye and imagination. Look to other images for inspiration, but don't copy and forget what settings they used to get their shot, you won't be taking the image in exactly the same conditions as they did so the settings are irrelevant to you. Try instead to find out why the took the shot, why they used that location or backdrop and why did they use that pose and style of model.
