Cute shot and kid. Though as a dad myself, park of me wants cringes and wants to say "just dont touch the lens."

I love this photo because for me personally, it captures the excitement and pleasure of discovery in one so young, where the lens is the path to all things new and old ~ Thank you for this!

Great, fun shot. It would be a great entry in my currently-running challenge, "Creative Kids. Young Visual & Performing Artists." You can find the challenge by going to my Profile/Challenges/Created. Hope to see it as an entry. In any event, wonderful image!

Location
I took this photograph in the North Yorkshire coastal town of Whitby. Whitby is such a photogenic place and it's views can often be seen in many a gallery, localy and nationwide. A uniquely friendly place for all the famiy to enjoy and I always seem to combine photography and family fun when I visit. This location down one of Whitby's fine cobbled streets picked itself, the oportunity presented itself when the child decided to play around with the camera.Time
This was taken just after lunch.Lighting
This is using only natural light. The sky was fairly cloudy and I think I got lucky with how the light caught the lads face. Lighting is everything in portraits and in natural light candid situations, luck plays a big part!Equipment
Canon 70D with a Canon 10-22 USM wide angle lens. I was primarily trying to shoot the scenery hence the wide angle lens and I hadn't really used for portraits before but I think it works well here. It gives the viewer a sense of perspective down the old street. No tripod or flash was used although I did have a Hoya UV filter attached.Inspiration
As I previously mentioned, this was a chance oportunist shot. The boy in the picture is my son Charlie and we often fool around whilst on days out and this was no different to any other time. Charlie loves to have a camera like his father and I asked to take his picture (which never goes down well!) and he thought he'd torment me by pretending to take mine. I grabbed a few frames optimistically and needless to say I knew I had a 'keeper' when reviewing the LCD on the back of the camera.Editing
I did the basic tweaks in Adobe photoshop Lightroom, starting with exposure correction and a slight contrast adjustment. I applied lens corrections and some small areas of sharpening. I then took it into Adobe Photoshop CC to undertake the black and white conversion and the dodge and burn. The conversion is a series of contrast and saturation adjustment layers, combined with lots of dodge and burn!In my camera bag
Normally I shoot landscapes and I carry a Canon 70d, Canon EFS 10-22, Sigma 24-70 EX DG, Manfrotto 290 series tripod with ball head. I use a Hadia 10 stop ND filter for long exposure work. If its a family day out I will pack a canon 50mm f1.4 for those blurry backgrounds.Feedback
This was purely one of them moments! My advice would be always carry your camera, you never know what might present itself. The times I see a wonderful sunset unfold and the camera is packed up at home, it's so frustrating and I am rarely without my camera anymore.
