Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at my home in Colchester. It’s a photo of my dog Maverick. It’s one of the first I took after becoming self taught.Time
It was in the morning, around 10, as the sun was shining through the window behind the subject.Lighting
I wanted to get the sun light directly behind the subject to give the glow around the outline when I darkened the background. It’s all about trial and error. It took a few snaps to get the right lighting and composition.Equipment
I used a Canon 90d with a 18-200mm lens. It’s useful camera when it comes to wildlife and fast moving objects, such as my dog who rarely sits still.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the eyes mainly as dogs eyes have evolved over the years to become more appealing to humans. It’s undeniable that there is innocence in there that is truly beautiful.Editing
Yes, I had to darken the background and ensure the eyes kept their colour. This took some playing around in Adobe Lightroom, but I am happy with the end result. In my camera bag
Because I’m new to photography and mainly want to capture wildlife I carry a Canon 90d with a 18-200mm lens which I use as an everyday lens. Then I have a Sigma 150-600mm lens which is an extremely effective budget zoom lens. It’s also handy to have a rain cover and some ND and Polarising filters.Feedback
The main thing is good composition and lighting. However my advice is to be creative and play around with different lighting and settings. You may find something new and more unique to yourself.
