Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Ranwali Beach Hotel, Sri Lanka. Ranwali Beach Hotel is an eco-friendly resort located on a 22-acre peninsula where mangrove forests and winding rivers converge to meet the sea.

Time

We went on nature walk around the hotel to capture some beautiful shots. It was morning time from 10 am to 11 am.

Lighting

You know Sri Lanka has tropical weather all time. It was a beautiful day with plenty of warm sunshine.

Equipment

This was shot on a Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, with an 8 MP camera, f/2.4, 31mm (standard), No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

Nature's my muse and it's been my passion.

Editing

I was an amateur photographer at that time. So.....no, I didn't do any post-processing.

In my camera bag

Usually, I don't carry bags. The only thing in my hand is my phone and the wallet.

Feedback

I didn't have a proper camera or types of equipment at that time. This was Close-up photography and this was not Macro photography. Butterflies are fantastically beautiful and photogenic – even fully subscribed insect-phobes can’t help but be seduced by their color, intricate markings, delicacy, and design. Butterflies are most active and easiest to locate on warm, still, sunny days. However, they can prove difficult to get close to, being flighty and sensitive to movement. There were some simple steps I followed: 1) Slowly get closer to the Subject. 2) During the daytime, stalking is the best technique. 3) Just be mindful of the sun’s position; if you cast your shadow across your subject, you will likely frighten it away. 4) Do not disturb adjacent grasses or vegetation, as butterflies are very sensitive to movement. 5) If you want, you can set-up a tripod. Using support is hugely advantageous, allowing you to compose and focus with greater precision.
