My son spotted this little guy one day and thought his little stripes looked awesome and begged me to photograph it. Well, apparently this spider was ready for his five minutes of fame because he willingly turned to my camera and sat so still that you can see my reflection in its adorable eyes.

I took this photo at home in Southern Louisiana. I take everything I find outside as a new opportunity for honing my skills as a photographer and pushing the limits of creative expression.Time
My absolute favorite so far, this guy was soaking up the late evening sun around 5:30pm when he was spotted by my teenage son on our truck's bumper.Lighting
The natural sunlight highlighted his hairs and reflected in his eyes so well, giving the bright and focused shot I wanted so that one is immediately drawn to the softness of the eyes and their depth, followed by the amazing detail of it's body. I chose to take this tiny, one inch spider and make it larger than life and cuddly in appearance to lessen it's scare factor.Equipment
This photo was snapped in a pinch (I did not have cameras unpacked/set up yet) on a Moto E5 Play. f/2.0 1/120 2.85mm ISO100Inspiration
My son enjoys a rare and special love of nature and he was playing with this sun bathing spider when he begged me to take a picture, that it was tame and would hold still, even though I had no camera ready yet. So I grabbed my phone and began shooting, with this beautiful little guy standing so still, staring right at the camera lens! He really did stay like my son said, and it resulted in one of my favorite shots to date.Editing
This is a raw shot with no alterations except enlarging/zoom and minor cropping off of extended, unnecessary background to make the spider really stand tall as the center of focus. In my camera bag
My usual equipment includes a Canon Rebel T3-i with 35-70mm and telescoping lenses, a Canon PowerShot A2300, a Canon AE-1 35mm film with color and b&w and my Moto E5 Play phone for backup.Feedback
Learning to step away from auto settings on any camera or device I am using, has been my greatest lesson. Learning to use manual settings provides so much more when shooting those macro shots. It has allowed for better adjustments of light and details coming through as well as allowing varying levels of background blur, making your foreground subjects shine at any size.
