Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my living room, where I set up a, small make shift studio.

Time

I did this shoot after work with my friend as the model. It was around 7pm when I started taken photos.

Lighting

I used a speed light on constant, using the modeling light, and set it to 38. The light was around 2ft above our head plans set to a slight diagonal slant downwards.

Equipment

Equipmtment used; my camera - a Nikon D3400, with a 50mm Prime lens. I used my Neewer 300W speedlight, black cardboard as absorption boards, 1 meter of black cloth as a back drop on my and a mirror as a relector.

Inspiration

I love portraits and beauty shoots. I have always wanted to do one, I have discovered I like black and white photos too so wanted to merge the 2. We too many head and shoulder shots when I wanted to try a mirror reflection type on photo, when the model looked down I just loved the symmetry and contours of the face at this angle I had to zoom in and start snapping.

Editing

I edited the photograph in Adobe Lightroom I cleaned up some blemishes using the clone tool and I changed the colour to monochrome and edited the amount of white and blacks in the photo I took alot of the white out and hightened the shadows to bring the freckles a.bit more forward and into the picture.

In my camera bag

I tend to have my camera, 3 lenses as 18mm-55mm (kit lens), 50mm Prime lens full frame (on a cropped frame.sensor. and my 70mm - 300mm lense. I also will have a few generic props like a touch, lens ball and a reflector.

Feedback

Make sure to use a slightly higher focus point to keep majority of the face sharp. Play about with your lighting positions to get a flattering contour on your model and compose your model/image to fit well into the frame.
