Dark, brooding rocky stacks towered above us in the zodiacs. The sun struggled to break through the morning mist. Kapp Fanshawe on the north-east of the main island of Spitsbergen provides nesting ledges for thousands of Brunnich’s guillemots, kittiwakes and glaucous gulls. A never-ending stream of parent birds bring food for their young - finding their nest must be a real challenge! The noise was deafening and the smell remarkable!
