Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at sunset on the beach at Conneaut Township Park. There are mounds of sand with these weeds growing on top. I used a 400mm lens and shot behind the mound.

Time

This was a summer evening. My wife and I were walking around. We had hoped for a good sunset but no clouds to speak off appeared. So we kept walking. As we walked behind a sand mound, that is when I saw my opportunity.

Lighting

The sun is so bright that it blows out some of the weeds in the middle.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D II with a 100-400 mm zoom. I do not remember if I used a tripod or not.

Inspiration

I wanted a good sunset over Lake Erie picture. Usually clouds make for a great sunset, with the sun bouncing off the water. Many colors happen that way. When there are no clouds, the sunset can be boring. I found this location, behind a small sand mound, by accident.

Editing

Not much post-processing in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon 5D sr, 800mm, 100-400 mm, 28-80 mm, 12-24 mm lens. Many filters and the normal extension tubes and multipliers.

Feedback

When you have a shot in mind, be able to look around and adapt to the scene. The sky, the clouds, the wind, can all make for an unexpected picture.
