Location
Photo was taken at the Sheddocksley Sports Centre Playing Fields in Aberdeen, a few days after I got my first DSLR.Time
This photo was taken whilst waiting on my son to finish his indoor football training in February 2017, would have been around 20:00 and very, VERY cold. As I recall it was approximately a 30 sec exposure.Lighting
There was no special lighting involved, as being on the edge of the city, light pollution is often an issue, but it was very dark, so point and hope basically.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 1300D, using a kit lens (probably an 18-55), on a manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
The faint light from a distant village, with sparse cloud and some stars just visible looked like it would make a good shot - quite proud of this one.Editing
Very light tough up in Lightroom, adjusting the exposure slightly and the curve. In my camera bag
I would normally have the Canon 1300D and a 70D in my back with a selection of lenses from a 10-22 ultra wide angle, an 18-135, a 35mm Prime, and a kit 70-300mm tele. Also carry as spare SD card, and usually some ND filters.Feedback
Trying to do this in a city as a beginner with very little time to dedicate to my hobby is challenging, and I think there was a fair degree of luck on the night. Best bets to replicate or improve on this shot would be to go for an ultra wide lens such as the 10-22, get as low a fstop as you can, keep the ISO down (no more than 400), and take a bunch of shots. Tripod and remote trigger absolutely essential - if going for the same time of year - wrap up warm and have a flask with a hot drink handy :). If I was doing this again, would probably use the 500 rule, and stack a number of shots in post.
