This photo was taken at Southside Beach in Geelong.. also known as Bells Beach. Since Melbourne internal beaches are quite crowded we decided to drive out about an hour and shoot on this amazing beach.Time
I believe the shot was taken somewhere between 3pm and 4pm. The sun was quite up high still but in a good direction. In Melbourne summers sun down is about 9pm so you can imagine the angle of sun. However light was beautiful.Lighting
Its a surf beach so waves are pretty hard :) we had to wait between the shots to get a some nice ones.Equipment
Well my all rounder Canon 70-200 IS II F2.8. The shot was taken with a variable ND Filter on the lens with shutter speed about F1/160 and aperture F2.8.. with ISO 100.. It was pretty sharp light so i had to cut the light using ND.. Yes i could have done it with higher shutter speed.. but i just love the skin tones ND filter creates.Inspiration
I love reflections and we were shooting all around the beach.. the moment i saw the reflections thats it.. after that we were around that area for next 30 minutes :)Editing
Yes i am a pro-retoucher i use photoshop to do my retouching and C1 for raw processing. Mostly healing, patching, Dodge & burn and colour grading.. nothing more.. I dont recommend using FS (frequency separation) so if you are out there still using FS get rid of it.In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark III 70-200 F2.8 IS II Hoya Variable ND Filter Thats all what i travel with when i am shooting at the beachFeedback
Shooting hard light is not hard as people think. Its only about paying attention to your shadows and highlights..
