Now that is taking photography to the limits. LITTERALLY! I love this picture. With the sun low in the sky and the silhouette of the sky divers. Excellent! all falling 32ft per second sqr. Shawn.

Behind The Lens

Location

Photo was taken in Zadar, a town in Croatia with stunning sunsets. Skydiving during sunset in that place gives a breathtaking scenery. Having the mountains on one side and sea and islands on other, I've never been to a more beautiful place to skydive.

Time

Just before the sun will set behind the horizon. I'm still trying to catch skydivers and the sun being the perfect circle.

Lighting

Overall, it's not the most amazing lighting for shooting the action. I can't go under 1/640 exposure time, otherwise my subject will go blurry, so I have to compensate that with ISO, which will sometimes give a noise in the landscape. Being on the ground, this is amazing soft light at this time of day, but wearing the camera on helmet sometimes gives a frustrating results. Then again, it gives results like this photo too.

Equipment

I use Canon 7D MkII with Sigma 10-20 lens mounted on the helmet, triggered by tongue switch.

Inspiration

After just a few skydive, I knew that I wanted to do skydive cameraworks. Back then there was no GoPros and I wore a Sony CX-105 handycam on an improvised helmet mount and an iron wire as a sight. Later on I added Canon 400D on top of that helmet and started doing skydiving photography, until I got to the gear I have now and found a perfect dropzone to do photos like this.

Editing

Normally I just edit the colors and crop if needed. On this one I've added a golden overlay to make an image softer.

In my camera bag

My standard kit for skydiving is 7DMkII with Sigma 10-20 lens. Normal kit for photography would be mostly Canon 50 1.4 and Sigma 17-70 2.8. Those two lenses I used the most when traveling too, with 50 being on the camera most of the times.

Feedback

When I started taking photos in air, my friend told me to just put the camera on P and go for it. That was not a good advice. Later a fellow photographer told me to put it on Av... I realised that more you play with different setups, the better. Once you found your perfect setup... DON'T stick to it, keep learning.
