Location
This photo was taken on my island home of Antigua & Barbuda, a classic tourists' destination of sun, sea and sand. The location is about 2 miles from the main shopping capital of St. John's which you can see in the left of picture, across St. John's Harbour.Time
It was not the classic "golden hours" when this image was captured but around mid-afternoon on a day when the sun was not at its dominant, blazing best It however gave little glimpses between thinner clouds causing the light to dance unpredictably on the scene.Lighting
Having stood looking at the scene for a while, I realized the shot had to be one taken when the sun was only slightly obscured by thinner clouds. This cut much glare from the leaves on the ground. It also allowed for a lot more warmth in the overall image much unlike the high contrast scenes one gets with the more intense sunlight. I found it intriguing the way the warm light, the leaves, the overhanging branches and the path all worked to produce an almost spooky scene at that time of the day.Equipment
Most of my recent shooting has been with the Canon T5i. This image was shot with a 18 to 135 "kit" lens, which has really served me well. There was no artificial light employed and the shot was taken hand-held as I lay on my stomach with the camera very close to the ground giving the impression of a desolate walk upwards into the scene.Inspiration
The inspiration to take this image started with just the beautiful sheet of coloured, fallen leaves. Antigua and Barbuda has only two seasons ...wet and dry...so this fall image was both intriguing and attractive.Editing
I am a year away from 60 years of age so I am very photography "old school." Honestly, to a certain extent I harbour a deficiency on the use of post-processing programmes so most of my images only undergo some minor exposure adjustments and perhaps some adjustments of contrast as well.In my camera bag
My bag has started to get heavier as my "all round" photography improves. I travel with my trusty T5i and a series of lenses including the 18 to 135, a 70 to 200, a 100 to 400, release cable, and a plethora of filters from polarizer to neutral density grads and neutral density filtersFeedback
Remember not to view everything from eye level. Go lower, as in this case or go higher... a different perspective can be exciting and rewarding. vary angles slightly and try more shots. Never be in a hurry to get on to the next scene
