This photo was taken at a railway station in a small finnish town of Mikkeli. One day I came across an advert in a local newspaper saying that all citizens of the town are invited to a unique ride on a steam train. It was an amazing opportunity not only to feel the atmosphere of old times and be a part of action, but also to take some pictures, and I decided to go there!Time
If I remember correctly, the first locomotive was to depart approximately at about 11am in the morning. Still I needed to pack my belongings with me and prepare well, because it was freezing outside. So I got ready and headed out to the station. There was a lot of people! Everybody was waiting for the steam engine to appear! So, when it appeared, and workers started bustling in and out, I got ready and started taking photos.Lighting
I haven't got any flashes at that moment, or any other devices for the additional lighting, and the amount of day light was sufficient.Equipment
This photo was taken with Nikon d3100, with a 55-300 Nikkor Af-s Dx.Inspiration
Actually, I enjoy taking photos of people, but only if they don't see me in return. It helps to achieve more natural photos, more lively captures, when everybody is busy with some ordinary things, when life is going as it is. Wanted to achieve the same effect here. I looked around on the crowd standing there, searching for possible theme of the next capture, was waiting for a worker to enter the locomotive and my expectations were rewarded! I think I managed to take one amazing capture, where this man was not posing - he was just doing his job.Editing
Yes, I'd processed this photo in Adobe Photoshop. Croped, fixed up contrast, made face of that man sharper than it was.In my camera bag
Inside my bag at any time you can find Nikon d3100 with two lenses. First on is 18-55mm Vr and I use it practically everyday in any circumstances as it is very convinient and 55-300 Nikkor Af-s Dx, telefoto zoom lens, which I've bought specially for practising sports photography, but in ordinary life I can't live without it. Not so long ago I've bought the HOYA prond ND500 filter and now it's always with me.Feedback
If it is possible not to attract attention, use this opportunity! This way you will be able to take pictures of people in their daily routine, in their own moods and feelings, in their pure emotions. It may enhance your photography! What is more important, always be ready to take a photo, try to think in advance waht may happen in this or that situation. And don't be shy: try, make attempts, make photographs! It's your own view on the reality and why not to present it to the world?
