Location
I took this photo in my home. I was just starting out and had a bean bag and bought some black felt and a little space in one of my back rooms. The son of my best friend from high school had this little boy, so I talked them into bringing him over for me to practice. I laid baby on his side, curled him up and had dad put his hands under him.Time
I took this in the middle of the day so I has some natural light coming in to help with the one small light I had.Lighting
The one light I have is a continuous light box. I also try to shoot by a window for some natural light.Equipment
I shot this with my Nikon D700, 50mm 1.8 lens. I used my one box light and a little light from a window.Inspiration
I had been watching videos, and searching the internet for inspiration before I had this little guy over. I had investigated the best fabric to lay him on, that wasn't reflective. I loved how the style of this shot looked like they were being held up, so I played around with some posing until I loved the look of this pose.Editing
I did edit this in Lightroom, increased the blacks and just played around with it. I had planned on making it black and white, but after playing with it loved how this looked. In my camera bag
When I'm setting out to take pictures I always have my Nikkor 24-70 mm lens and 50mm 1.8. But when I have babied in my home I always have my 50mm and 35mmFeedback
To try to capture this pose the more curled up the baby is, the better. You want it to look like the hands could actually be holding the baby up. You want to avoid having legs or arm stretched out. Also, I like making sure the wrist are toughing. I believe it gives the look that the baby could slip through the crack. Also make sure you shoot from straight over the baby. It can be a little tricky with you and dad (or mom) in the same place.
