Location
I took this photo at the junction where the Coquihalla river meet the Fraser river in Hope, British Columbia. it was early morning and the sun was just coming over the mountains. there was mist coming off the ground and the heron looked very majestic with the back lightingTime
this shot was taken around 6:30 am. the sun comes out a bit later as Hope is surrounded by near by mountains.Lighting
this was taken during the golden hour, and back light, my favorite lighting.Equipment
this was taken with a Nikon D5200 and a 70-300mm lens. I took the shot hand held with no flashInspiration
the scene was too beautiful to not take a picture of, the lighting and subject were all most perfectEditing
this was one of my early shots so there was very little post processing done as I didn't know how, lol. I still struggle in the post processing department. I think there is a bigger learning curve to learn processing, then photographyIn my camera bag
my bag usually has my camera (no kidding) a long lens, a macro lens. I always have a flash and a Mag Mod flash extender(shameless advertising plug) I usually carry a circular polariser too. there is often a small collection of wrappers from Werther's caramels. don't laugh, try shooting with one and with out.Feedback
If I could offer and advice it would be just get out and shoot. shoot anything that catches your attention, try new angles or techniques. the possibilities are almost endless. I also don't usually down load my images right away. after a short period of time I can be more objective when reviewing my shot. some I see more potential, some I wonder what the heck was I thinking when I took this?? bottom line, make it fun! and share with others. cheers
