Location
This photo was taken at the Hawk Conservancy in Andover. Fortunately the eagle was tethered outside so I did not have bars or fencing to contend with.Time
The photo was taken mid morning.Lighting
Unfortunately bird parks don't usually open until 10am so to achieve good lighting can be very difficult. I increased the ISO to 800 as even though it was a sunny day the enclosure was surrounded by trees making it quite dark.Equipment
This was taken using a Canon 70d with a 70-200 f4 lens. I did not have a tripod with me so used the fence for stability.Inspiration
I love taking shots of birds and animals and it can be difficult to take them without shooting through fences and bars. The Eagles I took shots of that day looked so grand and majestic. I took so many shots!Editing
I did very monitor adjustments using Lightroom, including adjustments to vibrance, clarity and sharpening and the image is also cropped slightlyIn my camera bag
I have a Canon 6d as well as the 70d. In terms of lenses my go-to lens is the 70-200 f4 but I also have a Sigma 105mm macro and a Canon 24-105 L series lens.Feedback
I tend to use a fairly wide aperture for this kind of shot to blur the background. I also check the background to ensure the image is shot against shrubs or trees, for example, to ensure the image looks as natural as possible. Also my focus is always on the eyes. I tend not to use flash however so as not to startle the birds.
