Location
I took this picture in Mysore, Karnataka (India) at the local marketplace. I was studying there for school and we would often travel into town to explore, buy treats, and meet new people.Time
The time of day was mid-afternoon. Even though the marketplace is covered by tarps and is dim inside, the bright colours of the food, clothing and dyes really bring it to life.Lighting
Each of the vendors have their own choice of lights to illuminate their products and I used this, along with a longer exposure, to capture the brightness of the dyes. I also made the vibrancy higher and didn't use a flash despite being "indoors".Equipment
Just my nikon coolpix (higher end point and shoot) and no flash.Inspiration
I knew before I even travelled to India that I wanted to find these pyramids of dyes and take a ton of pictures of their wild colours. I had seen and heard of them from other students who had done the program I was on and I felt like I could offer a unique perspective on the angle of the dye pyramids.Editing
Just standard editing. The colour was already so vibrant that I didn't need to change the contrast or exposure much.In my camera bag
I normally have loads of spare SD cards, my other cameras (film mainly) and a few lens. Keep it simple for maximum travel!Feedback
Find a unique angle to what you want to capture. You can take a photo straight on but finding the unorthodox or weirdest way to shoot something interesting makes the best photos. Also in post, sometimes I'll invert or flip my pictures while editing just to see if they look better from another orientation. Experiment to find the best angle.
