Behind The Lens

Location

In the old city of Jerusalem, just opposite the western wall.

Time

Taken towards midday with the light being very harsh, so I was thinking in B&W mode.

Lighting

The light was strong and created great contrast between light and shade, so that the dark figures created a natural framing for the hands in the light.

Equipment

A Panasonic fz8 superzoom

Inspiration

I saw the couple, which I think are a mother and son, walk slowly towards the stone bench in the heat, the son helping his mother along patiently and carefully, and just felt there was going to be a great photo opp soon, I ran towards them and when the scene happened zoomed in and took the shot.

Editing

Converted to b&w, played a bit with contrast, shadow and highlights and sharpening, and added a bit of vignette to frame and emphasize the subject.

In my camera bag

Now I have an Olympus em5 II with a 20/1.7 lens as my walkabout lens. In the bag are a 45/1.8, 40-150/4-5.6, and a 14/2.5. When I took the shot all I had was the FZ8.

Feedback

Always look around you for interesting human interaction, especially showing feeling and emotion, I was lucky to anticipate and spot this one.
