Location
This photo was taken at Boone, Iowa. I was doing my Ph.D on particle physics at Iowa State University in Ames, and occasionally going out for photo shooting trips in neighborhood.Time
I was walking around the old train station of this small lovely town and it was around mid day when I saw this beautiful old lady sitting on its rails.Lighting
I was quite fascinated with its colors and textures, and I spend almost half an hour rambling around it to find the best point of view. Since the sun was at its highest point it was difficult to find a good vantage point. Then I saw the small reflection on the top-front of the locomotive, and it produced a nice flare in the photo.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon Rebel T3i with f18-55mm 3.5-5.6 lens, and no any other equipment is involved.Inspiration
I was planning to shoot HDR photos, and looking for scenes containing some details and variety of colors. The old train station was a perfect stage for this purpose, there were old abandoned wagons, bits and pieces scattered around, tools and equipment etc. But this old yellow lady looked fantastically beautiful, she had colors, details, perspective, shadows and highlights rendered on a very nice scene.Editing
HDR photography usually requires couple of bracketed shoots of the same frame to be stacked with certain tools. For this shot I used 3 bracketed frames -1.5, 0 +1.5, stacked them in PhotomatixPro and made small touches in PhotoShop. In my camera bag
I don't carry too many of equipment in my photo bag. I have my Canon Rebel T3i with its f18-55mm 3.5-5.6 lens and occasionally I put my old SMC Takumar f50mm 1.4, Super Komura f135mm 2.8 and a set of extension tubes.Feedback
HDR photos are a blend of scene capturing and lab work at post processing. In capturing stage lighting has the key role to emphasize shadows and highlights. Choosing a scene with lots of details makes HDR photos very realistic. Once the frame is bracketed with at least 3 shots creativity reveals itself in post processing with HDR tools.
