Lens, luck and light - It's a saying I've heard over and over again within the realms of photography, and this shot is perfect point of case.
I was sitting in the Welsh Assembly Building in Cardiff Bay waiting for my contact to show for a commercial job I was shooting that day, and enjoying a coffee on a beautiful Autumn day.
The assembly building or The Senydd, is beautiful. Designed around Welsh slate, glass and this wonderful centre piece of a ceiling, which is made entirely of red cedar planks.
I could see the shot, but the light streaming through windows from a low sun was just too strong to get the shot I wanted and was washing out the contrast in the wood panelling.
Just by luck the sun took cover behind a cloud, I steadied my camera on the cafeteria's table and managed to get the shot I wanted.
This image won a 'Gold Award' in the SWPP's monthly image competition (November 2012 Architecture) and was published in Professional Image Maker magazine earlier this year.
