Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken on my coffee table in my hotel room in Saudi Arabia. I was still really new to Photography and with some new gear I was really itching to get some shots in.

Time

Well it was quite late one Thursday night. One of my work friends took me to this great little Canon Shop in downtown Jubail. Where we lost ourselves for a while. And like an excited little boy I just had to try out my new tripod, but to find something worth shooting at that time of night, in a hotel...not easy! And that's when I spotted my watch on the wood table...

Lighting

No not really, there was only the room lights that were on...no fancy flash or light boxes had made it into my bag by then...

Equipment

I use my Canon 1200D with the 18-55mm lens that you get in the box on a standard Berno Tripod. I wanted to try the long exposure shots that I saw Karl Taylor do earlier that week, so naturally I just had to try it out once I got myself a tripod.

Inspiration

Well there wasn't anything really... I think it was just me still being a newbie and shooting everything in sight! which is really the only way you learn! But a while later I went through all these shots and discovered this one, that's when I realized how time is the one thing that influences everything...even the shot I took of it. So naturally it made it to the post shot editing stage.

Editing

I only a few tweaks on my Free Photoshop trail program...hahaha, newbs! Just cropped out the edges to get the composure I wanted and leveled the table. (Rookie mistakes). And finally a B&W filter for that "timeless" effect!

In my camera bag

Well seeing as I am new to Photography and really fell in love with it, it changes on a monthly basis. But I will never leave that 18-55mm Canon lens, what great piece of glass, behind and the bag with my filters are always right next to it. Just love how you can manipulate light with them. especially the ND Grad Filters.

Feedback

First of all, learn your equipment! Know everything about every single piece of gear in your bag! you spend all the time and money on it, so use it to its fullest potential! Then remember that every single thing on this planet has likely been photographed, so try different and new ways to show them off! A simple item could make a great shot!
