This photo was taken on the Colorado River in Lampasas County TX I am a self taught photographer and think that having a good eye is very important when capturing landscape photos.Time
This photo was taken around 2 PM on Oct 10, 2006 I am a Texas Realtor and was showing property at the Smith Ranch in Lampasas County.Lighting
I used the natural light as the sun was shaded behind the fall sky with a slight overcast. I find that when taking landscape photos with an overcast, keeps the shadows from distorting the subject.Equipment
This shot was taken with a KODAK EASYSHARE C743 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA, F/27, ISO 80, Aperture 2.86, no flash, with no tripod just using a simple pocket digital camera.Inspiration
As a Realtor showing farm and ranch properties I always take a camera along for the ride as you never know when a perfect photo will present itself. I am a amauter photographer and am always keeping my eye open for those perfect moments and photo opportunities. As we turned the corner I saw a splash of color and noticed a beautiful purple Iris growing next to an Oak tree. I had to stop and enjoy the view and capture this wonderful photo.Editing
No post-processingIn my camera bag
I first started with a 35mm Pentax 50mm lens back in the 90's took some great photos with that old camera, then picked up a small Kodak digital camera because of the convenient size, I now carry a Nikon Coolpix P90. I hope to graduate to an SLR one day, for now my Nikon is in my bag wherever I go.Feedback
I look to see what is around to enhance the focal point of what I am shooting. In this photo I capture the bark from the tree with the branches and limbs to frame the photo and using the river as a backdrop. My equipment is basic so I am looking at every possible angle to tell the story in my photo. Keep in mind that when you are taking those landscape photos, the human eye can see much more than the camera, and trying to capture the scenery before you as you experience it is very hard to do. Instead of trying to get it all in --focus on a highlight and bring the surroundings into the frame. My advice would be to not only keep the weather conditions in mind as far as lighting goes but to shoot the photo and the subject in several different angels ....Let the camera and the photo tell the viewer the story of the scenery before them.
