Love the story of this shot. Was it windy?

What an amazing shot. Love the "fanning" of the sparks. Looks a little breezy.

Behind The Lens

Location

I was on the East Bank of the Willamette River in Portland, Or

Time

This photo was taken a little after 9pm

Lighting

It was a bit of challenge to get city light to show up as well as the fireworks. The hard thing to do with fireworks is to not catch too many or over lapping fire works and keep the details.

Equipment

Nikon D7000, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6, Manfrotto Tri-pod with a ball head,

Inspiration

I love taking fireworks shots. It is a real challenge to get it right. The tough part is to get just the right amount in one frame and at the same time not have the fire works overlap too much.

Editing

I did a bit of post-processing in Lightroom CC mainly to darken the sky.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7000, Nikon D3200, Canon SX50-HS,Nikor 55-300, Sigma 17-70, wireless remote, wired remote and timer, Auto trigger (motion, sound, lightning and timer), a selection of Cokin Filters, mini tri-pod

Feedback

Part of getting good Fireworks shots is not over doing it on each shot. You need to picture in your head, what is already on the frame and adjust you time for it. Sometimes I will use bulb and trigger it as soon as I hear the little pop of the launch and as soon as I see in my mind that I have enough for the frame I release the shutter. If they are firing the fireworks at a slow pace, I will use bulb again but after each firework I will put my hand in front of the lens till I hear the next pop them pull my hand away. When I feel I have enough for the frame I close the shutter.
