Location
This canal is 15min walk from my home in Worcestershire, UK. I moved a year ago just because of the beautiful countryside, the poppy fields and the vast amount of canals and rivers in the area and have not regretted since. Especially in lockdown days I enjoyed walks by the canal on numerous occasions.Time
I went to the shops and the usual road was closed so I had to take a diversion. The diversion road I took was less than a mile away from the canal but was covered in beautiful frost. Only in that area and that sounded spectacular and weird at the same time. I decided to go down to the canal as expected to find some more frost. I did not find it as I was expected it to be but nevertheless the fog and the frost in the area created the right mood for this picture.Lighting
The light was less but directed to my hair and illuminated perfectly the river. I wanted some highlights to illuminate the person, in this occasion me but also the lack of light and the presence of fog created a mystery around the picture.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and my EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM mounted on a tripod and set to a self timer taking 10frames at a time.Inspiration
I like the mysterious mood in faceless portraits and as being in lockdown and due to the reduced amount of human interaction I decided to push myself and using myself as a model. Taking self portraits in nice locations has given me more freedom to create artistic photos. I am not restricted by other people's availability and most of the time reflect my mood and my inner need to create.Editing
I used LG, magazine preset I bought couple of years ago in lightroom and added a vignette filter. Did some adaptations on exposure and dehazing. Actually all of my editing for this photo was done in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I carry my tripod, my 5D Mark II or IV camera and either my EF 70-200mm lens or my 85mm 1.8 prime lens. I carry extra batteries and some props to use in my photos like a shawl in this photo.Feedback
I think pushing ourselves and getting out of our comfort zone is the best start. Keep trying and not thinking of what people will think of ourselves. Create first for yourself to make you happy and then for the rest population. The more we try , the more we learn. ????
