Location
The photo was taken in Singapore. This bridge is called the Esplanade Bridge and one of the most picturesque bridges in Singapore.Time
I remember it was taken few hours before the sunset. As I arrived on this place, I was scouting the area to find the best possible composition that I can find for a sunset shot but I ended up finding this interesting bridge that has a perfect symmetry.Lighting
On this image, I only relied on the natural light that I got on the scene. I wanted to make this image to look mysterious so I took advantage of the contrasty scene and decided to use a lower shutter speed.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D5300 with Tokina 11-16 lens mounted on a Benro System Go Plus tripod. I also used the NiSi V6 filter system with Landscape CPL and 6-stop ND to achieve the shutter speed that I wanted to use for this image and to remove the glare and reflections of the water.Inspiration
Growth. To look back many years and see how far I’ve come, inspires me to keep learning, adapting and experimenting. I aim to make sure that each photograph that I take is in some way better than the one I took before. I try to use photography to show people the way in which I see the world, not just the visuals of a scene before me, but the feelings that I have, the emotion and the spirit as well. I’ve always thought that I’m not very artistic. I can’t draw, I can’t sing, I’ve tried to learn music as well, but it seems beyond me. But with photography, I’ve found an outlet that works for me, something that you lose yourself in shooting, and all your worries and daily stresses just melt away.Editing
Yes I did. On this image, I decided to make it a monochrome image to remove any distraction of color and helps the viewer focus on other aspects of the photo, such the texture, shape and pattern of the bridge as well as the composition. I imported the photo on Adobe Lightroom and did global adjustments like increasing the highlights and decreasing the shadows a little bit to make a minimalist black and white photo. I also boosted the contrast and clarity, did dodge and burning and lastly, I sharpened the image using High Pass filter on Adobe Photoshop. In my camera bag
Right now, my main gear that I used in shooting cityscape/landscape is the Nikon Z7 paired with Nikkor 24-70 lens. I also have my Nikon D7500 with Nikkor 10-24mm as my secondary gear. Sometimes I also bring my telephoto Tamron 70-200 G2 lens. Second thing is my Benro System Go Plus tripod. This is very essential for me because I usually shoot with slow shutter speeds and it helps me to produce blurry or out of focus images. This also helps me to fix my composition for hours specially when shooting sunrise or sunsets. Next are the filters, I am currently using the NiSi V6 filter holder system with a Landscape CPL, 6-stop ND, 10-stop ND and 3-stop soft GND. I always bring this system as it helps me to create an epic image from an epic scene. Other things that I have in my bag are extra batteries, extra memory cards, remote cable release, lens blower and microfiber cleaning cloths.Feedback
When you try to shoot in an interesting place but with less colors, try to diversify your vision and creativity by doing long exposure shots or convert the image into a black and white photo. You will be surprised that the scene you are shooting is a lot more interesting than you thought it would be.
