This photo was taken in a friend's house; after we felt the timing is alright and mama cat is ready to show her kittens to a stranger(photographer). First I had to gain her trust to let me approach her kittens without making her nervous (She seemed to be super possessive about her kittens). So I put my equipment in a corner and sat next to them and let her sniff them for awhile and get used to them and also me.Time
I tried to get there earlier because I knew I had to kill some time just to let them get ready and get used to my presence. So I arrived there around 10 and spent some time with them and started shooting around 11.Lighting
The place had really nice and big windows (from the ceiling all the way to the floor). So I didn't have any problems with letting these little kittens rock the shot even on the floor where it isn't usually lit enough for small subjects like them. The floor tiles also functioned as reflectors, so more light made those little faces and their whiskers pop out.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5D (mark IV), with a 50mm f/1.4 lens.Inspiration
I had no idea how photoshoot is going to turn out, so I decided to have some baskets and other accessories with me just in case. They ended up being useful because these little guys were being naughty and wouldn't stick together for long. So we put them in a basket to limit their mobility to some extent and make it a little harder for them to move.Editing
In addition to light and color correction, I had to remove the owner's hand who was holding the kittens. In my camera bag
In addition to my Canon 5d, I have my 50mm f/1.4 prime lens, for it gives the subject amazing separation from the background and puts more emphasis on it. It also keeps the photoshoot going in low-light situations where you don't have any flashlights with you. One of my pet peeves is to have noises in my shot, so even if I knew the lighting is ok beforehand, I wouldn't risk it.Feedback
Always have a backup plan for every situation. I had my 24-105mm f/4L Lens in case of not being able to get close to the kittens. I had baskets with this specific photoshoot to have more space for creativity, but I used them not only for their aesthetic aspects but also to control the subjects' mobility.
