Location
This photo was taken whilst on holiday in Hong Kong. It is upstairs on a service road between 2 towers at the China Hong Kong City shopping mall.Time
I had been in Kowloon park with my daughter to watch the Sunday morning Kung Fu club go through their display. We then strolled over the road to the Mall at around 12:30pm.Lighting
Although there were broken clouds it was around noon so the light was very bright. Because we were in between lots of towers there was lots of contrast between the shadows created by the towers and the buildings across the road in the direct sunlight. This created lots of eye catching reflections which in turn lead me to take this picture.Equipment
I use a Nikon D5300 and because I was on holiday I like to travel light so was using my Sigma 18-200mm Contemporary lens.Inspiration
I had caught site of this building complex from across the road in the park. As the building has golden tint on the window glass I thought it would be worth an explore. I took a couple of different pictures but this one really caught my eye.Editing
I'm still learn when it comes to post processing. I'm currently using ON1 Photo Raw. I mostly allowed the the software to automatically adjust the tone & colour then I played around with the contrast and the saturation to get the colours to pop a bit more. To finish I added a slight vignette to help draw the eye in to the picture a little more without disturbing the edges too much.In my camera bag
I try to plan and keep things lite due to my back so only had my D5300 and the one 18-200mm lens on this trip. Other times such as my trip to South Africa I take my Sigma 150-600mm lens but this only comes out for specific reasons because of the weight. Again depending on the situation I will carry my D3200 just as a backup.Feedback
In this shot I tried to frame the blue with the gold and tried to keep the converging verticals as minimal as possible. This shot was a spur of the moment kind of a thing as a lot of my shots are taken whilst on holiday and getting out at the right time doesn't always fit with the family. These days I like to try and plan a bit more and use Apps to check the weather and where the Sun is likely to be at any given time. I still struggle to get out in all the nice golden light in the mornings but I think just getting out and shooting is important to help improve my photography.
