Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while on holiday in London visiting Tower Bridge. I spotted The shard nearby and thought...I have to get close to it to get a photo!

Time

The picture was taken around midday and I was so glad there were clouds around because of the reflection on the glass. It might not have been so good just with clear blue skies!

Lighting

I would rather have taken this photo around early evening time -the golden hour-but , I won't complain too much about the light although it was rather bright.

Equipment

This was taken with a canon EOS 1100D and a wide angle lens. There was no need for tripod as it was quite bright around midday.

Inspiration

I was walking around the area near Tower bridge and could see the Shard nearby and all I could think about was getting as near as possible to the building and taking the photo with my wide angle lens. I really think it's an impressive building that most people would want to photograph.

Editing

The only post-processing I did was take out a little highlight so the clouds would show up more.

In my camera bag

I actually haven't got much equipment at all or even that good a camera! I always have my wide angle lens on the camera and take also my f/1.8 , 50mm lens in case I want to take any close-ups. Most of the time ,I use the wide angle lens.

Feedback

To take pictures of tall buildings ,or any building for that matter ,I think it's always best to use the wide-angle lens and to get as close as you can and to get down as low as you can to take the photograph. Also ,if you can take the photograph with an interesting sky ,then all the better. Clouds-especially wispy clouds-can really make a difference to a photograph ,especially if taken with a wide-angle lens.
