Location
This photograph was taken on Southampton Common during the middle of the day.Time
It was around lunchtime with the sum almost directly overhead.Lighting
The strong sunlight helps bring out the natural colours of the mallards head.Equipment
This was taken lying down using a Canon 450d with a Tamron 70-300mm lens ( You don't need expensive kit to get nice shots!)Inspiration
I love Southampton Common. It has lots of wildlife and people. Good subjects are often not far from home.Editing
This really didn't need too much post processing. A slight crop to centre the image and a few small adjustments was all this shot neededIn my camera bag
It all depends where I'm going. Sometimes I just take my camera and a 50mm lens, other times it's a full backpack with 4 lenses and a sandwich.Feedback
Get down low. On an eye level with your subject is best. You get a real feel of interacting with your subject, as if you are part of their world rather than an intruder. I like a shallow depth of field to really bring out the subject.
