Location
This photo was taken at Cagsawa Ruins Legazpi City, Philippines.Time
This was late afternoon about 15 minutes before sunset.Lighting
The lighting was very nice at this time. Sky was clear and some warm light touching the rustic foreground.Equipment
Fujifilm X-T2, Fujinon XF10-24mmF4 R OIS , Benro System Go GC269TB2 Tripod.Inspiration
The primary subject I was planning to shoot (Mayon Volcano) was totally covered in clouds so I looked for another composition.I came across this characterful tree with some nice foreground rocks that were totally inline with the sunset.Editing
It took 4 exposures. A base exposure where I can build a perfect mask. One for the brighter foreground at f11 (which i covered the sun with my hand to eliminate the flare). Then another for the darker sky again at f11. And lastly for the sunstar at f22. Masked them all in Photoshop. Added some contrast work, a little orton effect, and a ton of light painting. In my camera bag
My only camera and lens Fujifilm X-T2, Fujinon XF10-24mmF4 R OIS lens, A couple of solid nd filters, Benro tripod and a cable release.Feedback
Plan, Previsualize, and Back Up Plan. 1. Plan Before going to a destination research about it as much as you can. Ask questions like, What's the best time to visit? Is it a sunrise or sunset image? What's the weather during my visit? 2. Previsualize Always have an idea what you want to accomplish in the field, what image you want to end up with. 3. Back Up Plan Despite planning as much as you can, things might not go as planned. Have a back up plan always ready. When your out there in the field your basically in the mercy of mother nature. Improvise, Never settle on a particular subject keep looking. Patience and perseverance is key for a good unique image.
