This one is part of a photo shoot at my home studio in San Diego with the wonderful and beautiful (inside and out) Kelly.Time
This was an indoor shoot so time of day was not really relevant as far as lighting. Although I did try to mimic natural window light. I believe we started the shoot late in the afternoon.Lighting
As I mentioned before I was trying to mimic natural window light but used cool lights for a subdued Rembrandt lighting pattern.Equipment
For this shoot I alternated between my Canon 5D MkII and the Fuji X-Pro1. This particular photo was shot with the Canon and my favorite portrait lens, an old Canon FD 85mm f1.2 L converted to EF mount. It is manual focus but I love the results.Inspiration
We were limited by wardrobe so we concentrated mainly on poses and expression. Kelly's natural beauty was perfect for this shot.Editing
Didn't have to do much retouching but did enhance the eyes, some retouching on the skin and hair, and some color grading. In my camera bag
Canon 5D MkII, with the 85mm lens, Canon 70-200L, Canon 24-70L, and Fuji camera and lenses.Feedback
Start out with an appealing subject. Keep it simple. I used a gray or white paper backdrop. Cool lights with softbox at approx. 45 degree angle and about eye level with a reflector to fill in shadows since I was going for a more ethereal look and not very dramatic. Shot it at a fairly large aperture (not f1.2 as the data says) but probably 2 or 2.8.
