Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in March 2012 at the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, Central India.Time
This was taken at around 8.30 am in the morning during the tiger safari.Lighting
The Tiger was in the shade, but the sun was bright and there were no lightning issues.Equipment
This image was taken with the Canon 500D and my 150-500 mm Sigma lens, and was handheld.Inspiration
I always wanted to capture an image of the Tiger roaring or yawning, and wanted a head shot of the same. And luckily, the tiger let out a growl, and the timing couldn't be better for me to capture this picture. And the fact that the tiger was about 10 meters away made it special.Editing
The image has been cropped by about 15%. Picture sharpening and slight colour saturation was applied using Lightroom. In my camera bag
My camera bag now consists of a 7D Mark 1 & 2 respectively, since I am predominantly a wildlife photographer. I have 2 telephoto lenses, a Canon 100-400 mm and a Sigma 150-600 mm. I also take along with me a 18-135 mm and a 50 mm lens to capture landscape and portraits if possible. That apart I carry 4 additional batteries, and my 7D Mark 1 has a battery grip. I carry my lens cleaning equipment, and a JVC handycam for videos.Feedback
The key is to stay quiet and calm, especially for Tigers, since any disturbance can make them go away. Let the animal be comfortable, and then you'll get the shots of a lifetime, especially at close quarters like I did.
