Location
This photo was taken at a friend of mine's house in Columbia, S.C. I don't have a studio and the summer's here are brutally hot. So I'm always seeking out indoor locations during the summer months. The subject is standing in front of a curtains and french door which steps out onto a 2nd floor balcony.Time
This shot was taken in the middle of the afternoon around 3pmLighting
This is natural lighting. I didn't use any additional lighting.I wanted the image to have the look of morning sunshine falling on my subject.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II with a 50mm F/1.8 lens. No flash or tripod.Inspiration
My inspiration for this shot was the clothing. I work closely with several fashion designers. The pieces from this collection had a strong loungewear/bedroomwear element to it.Editing
The natural lighting available did not provide the amount of glow I wanted so I added a light leak filter to the upper right hand side of the image to give the image more of a warm hazy feel to it.In my camera bag
Canon 50mm F/1.8 , Canon 85mm F/1.8 Canon 24-105 F/4.0Feedback
My advice for capturing similar images, is communicate with the model what you are looking for. Show your subject the images on your camera screen if needed so they can see what they are doing looks like. Mix up the amount of time the subject is looking directly at the camera. Spend time having the subject not looking right at the camera.
