I took this photo at the Grand Prismatic in Yellowstone National ParkTime
It was near sunset that I arrived at the spring. In my tour group we rushed to the spring in order to get there at "Golden Light" when the light was golden against the landscape.Lighting
I think the moments just before "Golden Light" are amazing. This is because, you get the effect of the sun going down, but you get a softer light on the subject.Equipment
Nikon d3100, Nikon DX 18-135mmInspiration
I was at the spring and I had no idea what it would be like there. But as we pulled up to the spring, I saw big billows of smoke coming from the plateau where the spring was located. I knew at that moment I wanted to get a shot of the smoke from the spring.Editing
No I did not.In my camera bag
My camera body, a lens, cleaning cloth, shutter release cable, film camera (Canon AE1) and extra film, extra memory cards, a flashlight, a book (In case I have a long exposure) and a bottle of waterFeedback
Yellowstone was absolutely gorgeous. You cannot take a bad photo of the park at any time of day. But at sunset, the park is beyond breathtaking. Nothing else on earth can make the light, nature, and people as beautiful as the park and the open sky of Wyoming/Montana.
