Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at a local meetup here in Toronto.

Time

Time of day wasn't a factor as it was shot in studio.

Lighting

It was lit with a single light and a 7 foot umbrella, very simple setup.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D750 with my 60 mm macro lens.

Inspiration

I wish i could take credit for the inspiration of the photo but sadly i cannot, the inspiration came from the meetup administrator Della Pham. i did however jump at the opportunity to take advantage of this Vaudeville themed shoot and am very thankful i did as it allowed me to capture this wonderful image.

Editing

Yes this image was well worked over in Photoshop and drastically differs from the in camera shot, i started by darkening the background and cello so that your eye would be drawing to joy and then scan the rest of the image. I also used a few actions to change tonality of the overall image and am very pleased with the outcome.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D750 and three favorite lenses which are my 70-200 mm 2.8, 85 mm 1.8 g, 60 mm 2.8 g macro lens. the 60 mm is my favorite lens because i find it to be the perfect walking around lens as its wide enough to get decent landscapes but not to wide as to get to much lens distortion when shooting portraits and its ridiculously sharp.

Feedback

For people starting out check out local meetups as its a great way to gain a wealth of knowledge in a short matter of time, and take the time to learn how to use your editing software as it can take a great photo to the next level. I know this has been said a million times but practice makes perfect and since there is no such thing as perfect you'll always have something to strive for.
