Location
This photo was taken during the production phase of a coffee table book about the city of Weimar. I love the early morning, the light at this time, especially in this part in the "Park an der Ilm".Time
In the hour before and after sunrise, you will have very often fog or mist in some areas of the park. Due to a lot of big trees, there are a lot of nice spots, where the light of the sun will be "filtered" thru this trees. I captured this photo at approximately 8 am. It was a cold morning with temperatures close to zero degrees celsius.Lighting
The get a good balance of light and shadows, I selected a short exposure time of 1/640. I selected a position, where the light rays will be seen in front of the much darker background.Equipment
At this morning, I restricted myself to use only the EF 85 f:1.2 on my Canon EOS5D MkII. With f 2.8 I got was able to soften the background good enough a get a sharp foreground.Inspiration
My inspiration was to take pictures that were not yet taken and published. Weimar will be visited by a large number of tourists around the year and a lot of photographers. There exists a high number of publications (book, postcards) of all areas of the city and the parks. And I want to show more emotion, a romantic and dreamy mood of this beautiful Park, which was designed by Goethe.Editing
Yes. I did some post processing with camera raw, especially increasing the contrast and brighten the shadows. In Photoshop I increased the autumn colors and added a black and white layer with soft light. In my camera bag
Typically I have in my Think Tank bag my 5D mkII and four to five L Lenses from 16 to 200 mm, all with f 2.8 or better.Feedback
Check out the light and the typical weather conditions of the location days before, I it is a new area for you. Take the early morning hours and check in addition the direction of the sunlight before - there exists some nice apps for that ( I use The Photographers Emeris).Take enough time and be at least half an hour upfront at the planned spot. If the outside temperatures are very low, take additional batteries with you and keep the warm.
