To be honest, I saw this image on the contest, I really love it, sometimes I think that images too much Photoshopped don't really deserve it. I love waves and this image is great!

I like the simplicity of the picture and the effects of the sunset to the waves! Very nicely done!

Hi Dals-Photography. No photoshop here. Just months of visiting the same spot trying to capture. Thanks for the kind comments though.

SO nice how you took it on sunset/sunrise!
how many times did you have to visit this spot before you got this?

I would call that absolutely stunning. Not only were the colors what was needed to emphasize the water, but the timing was absolutely perfect to give it that added effect a great photo needs.

Location
I captured this image off the East Coast of Queensland.Time
It was before 20 minutes before sunrise.Lighting
Im a big fan of backlighting my wave and ocean photography. It creates this amazing glow and clarity in the water.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7200 and a 70-200 2.8. The shot was hand heldInspiration
I noticed these amazing backwash shapes occurring one day, it was just amazing. Instantly I was on a mission to try and capture it. I shot many of these images, thinking when I finally got "the one" it would end, but I still find myself going back for more.Editing
I use Lightroom for my post processing. I use the adjustment brushes as a sort of dodge and burn effect. Then there is the usual suspects. Increase in contrast, curve adjustments and vibrance controls. I also used the clone tool to remove a partial piece of rock that crept in to the frame on the bottom right hand corner. To finish it off a sharpening adjustment through NIK output sharpening. In my camera bag

Go exploring. Once you think you have identified a spot in the ocean that can create these amazing shapes, figure out what the conditions need to be for backwash to occur and then keep an eye on them. Wind, tide, and swell are the most important factors. Once this is in place be prepared for many early mornings without much return, but keep at it, and eventually the conditions will come together and you will be ready and waiting.
