Location
At Cape Spear in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada - the most easterly point in North America.Time
During sunrise, 5:17 am to be exact.Lighting
I was aiming to get the sun at the right time to capture only the silhouette of my boyfriend (the violinist) and the lighthouse.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon Rebel T5 with an 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
I was actually laying in bed one night and this picture just popped into my head. We started keeping an eye on the weather for the next couple of days and as soon as it looked like it would be a clear morning we got up around 4 am and headed out.Editing
I just slightly darkened the shadows to make a darker silhouette and raised some saturation to give the sunrise a little more vibrance/contrast against he black. In my camera bag
Along with my 18-55mm lens I always carry my Canon 70-300mm lens, as well as a Canon Speedlite 430EX II detachable flash.Feedback
I guess timing and commitment is everything! If you're not a morning person (like me) you have to be pretty committed to waking up at 4 am to make sure you can be ready for the sunrise. Once it begins rising, you have about 20-30 minutes to start playing with the light before the sun gets too high in the sky and it loses the "golden hour" effect.
