Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken on the day of the huge Orlando Gay Pride Parade about four years ago.

Time

It was a warm fall afternoon in late October. There were hundreds if not thousands of people there. The smiles, the laughter, the colors and the festivities of the day was a lot more than I expected. I have never been to any kind of pride celebration and didn't know what to expect.

Lighting

This pictures was taken during the pride parade. I was snapping at anything and everything, people, adults, children, pets, flags, floats... Everything and everyone was so upbeat and positive and friendly. It honestly changed my whole way of looking at the gay community. They weren't there to be feared, or loathed or made fun of. They were people like all people on this delicate planet of ours, living, loving, laughing, crying, trying to be alive and accepted and cared about as much as they cared about each other. The people gave the day it's light, it's glow. Warmth. It was amazing!

Equipment

A nikon d5100. My first real digital sir camera. No flash. Not sure of the lens. It was just hanging around my neck and in my hands and I was keeping busy trying to capture as much of the day as I could.

Inspiration

Blood runs red through all of us. We are all brothers and sisters and as a family we are one, and life is just too precious and too short to have hate and be angry at each other - just because we don't look like or behave like or dress like, or have what others think we should.

Editing

I used a program called photomatix pro. I use it a lot with my images because I like the richness and depth that it gives to my works. It takes what appears to be just a flat kind image and gives it that little extra punch,

In my camera bag

My nikon d5100 and two lenses. (off the top of my head I don't know what they are. One is a wide and the other a zoom, sorry).

Feedback

Believe in your subject. Feel for it. Know what and why it is there and how it evolved... Know the history of the cause, of the theme, of the moment. Even if you have to make it all up in your head. The rest will speak for itself.
