The slot canyon of the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument is made of pumice and tuff giving the walls their white appearance. The rock and volcanic ash cement was deposited millions of years ago during a pyroclastic flow from the nearby Jemez Volcanic Field. Over time, the weathering and erosion has shaped the landscape into impressive hoodoos, or "tent-rocks" and curving canyons.
