Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is taken at Buffalo beach at Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula. The creek is called Mother Brown's creek and seagulls are frequent visitors. Whitianga is on the shores of Mercury Bay. Buffalo beach is named because a ship called the HSM Buffalo sunk during a storm and is still buried in the sand. On rare occasions, after storms and if the tides are right the ship can sometimes been buried in the sand.

Time

Photo was taken at sunrise in autumn at just after 7:00am

Lighting

The morning was very dull but there was a hint of colour - I waited for the intensity of the sunrise to come thru and was nicely rewarded

Equipment

Canon EOS 600D - lense EF 40mm f/2.8 STM ISO 400, f/8 and 1/200 - and tripod

Inspiration

The sunrises are amazing in this part of the country, perhaps not every morning but frequently enough that it is worth getting up for. When I visit the Coromandel I always try and get up for the sunrise.

Editing

Very little as the photo is taken is jpeg.

In my camera bag

Only my Canon EOS 600D. I prefer prime lenses for their sharpness.

Feedback

Patience. Often when I think that I'm not going to get the sunrise and I am about to pack-up but wait a few moments longer. Frequently I am rewarded with an amazing sunrise. Autumn and winter in NZ also produce some amazing sunrises and sunsets especially if the air is fresh.
