Behind The Lens

Location

The original image was captured at Cafe Des Amis Cajun and Creole Restaurant on Bridge Street in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Time

Time of day was around lunchtime.

Lighting

Lighting was a combination of natural, and artificial. Bar was located near a large window, but there was also incandescent ambient light as well (if I recall correctly!)

Equipment

My trusty camera is the Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-150 all-in-one mega zoom. I seldom use a flash, and seem to have an allergy to tripods. Portability and spontaneity are first and foremost in my choices of which equipment to tuck into my purse. As a woman photographer, I try to combine the function of a camera bag and the stylishness of a purse into one item... which is NOT always easy! (Now there's a great prize for a Premium Contest!)

Inspiration

Our photography group was having lunch at Cafe Des Amis as part of our yearly gathering. What a charming place -- and it is filled with many wonderful photo ops, as well as delicious food!

Editing

Oh yes! I had recently heard of a really interesting effects app from another ViewBug user, and decided to try this image. Dreamscapeapp has a particular effect "Snow Crash" that lends itself well to vertical lines in an image. (I am pleased to note that I have two other images in my VB Gallery that employ this effect and have also been well-received.) The subject matter suggested this image might be a prime candidate for manipulation... hence the title: 3 A.M.

In my camera bag

My "camera bag" is usually my purse, for everyday use... or a backpack for longer excursions. (Remember, I am but an amateur!) Equipment on hand is my Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-150 mega zoom; Nikon Coolpix P600 (primarily for its moon pre-sets, in which case I really DO have to use a tripod!); tripod is an old Gitzo R No. 1 from back in the days of film; numerous basic filters; my cell phone the Nokia Lumia 1020.

Feedback

Since this photo's appeal is primarily the result of an effect, my advice for capturing something similar would be simply: Experiment with editing programs you like, and see what works and what doesn't. Rely on your eye. Dreamscapeapp has many different effects --not all of which I like or use. I prefer effects that impart an artistic feel, not merely effects for the sake of effects.
