Stunning! A little "geek" here, it looks like you are holding a "Lightsaber"...in a way you are.

Location
This photo has been taken in Sahale Glacier Camp, North Cascades National Park, WA.Time
It was something around 9 pm. It was a pretty hard hike for me. But after a few cups of coffee I stood up because I could not miss this spectacular milky way!Lighting
I really like to shoot Milkyway, especially with bright backgrounds. It's kind of tricky because it's too easy to overexpose the foreground. So it's like a game to choose a flashlight and how long to keep it on.Equipment
Canon 6D, Canon 16-35, Manfrotto Tripod.Inspiration
I like night photography. I like to do something that can't be done easily. So this picture wasn't easy for me! 6 hours of hiking, a heavy bag but I did it :)Editing
Yes usually I do post-processing but it's just about contrasts, shadows, and color correction. I don't like compose pictures, so all my shots come from a single RAW.In my camera bag
Usually, I keep my camera which is Canon 6D and a few lenses. For night photography, I use Canon 16-35. I like honest photos so I keep a lot of gradient filters as well. For long expose I use a remote control.Feedback
Try to use the widest lenses as you can. Keep ISO something around 2600 and expose should be something around 20-25 secs. Try to create the composition before dark. It's pretty hard to make a composition in the dark. If you are going to use a tent as a foreground try to use a pretty small flashlight. Long expose will make from small lights bright lights.
