Location
This was taken at the Brooklyn Bridge -- and no I didn't do something nuts like climb out on the girders, though it definitely makes for a more interesting story. I am a semi-pro photographer who likes to venture close and far for the perfect shot.Time
This was taken after dusk mid-octoberLighting
noEquipment
This was shot on a 5d MarkIII with a 24mm len closed down to f18.Inspiration
I really dig urban environments, especially artificial lighting, be it neon, street lamps or in this case taillights. There's a certain energy that resonates from images that deal in man constructed vertical worlds; they possess a gritty beauty and a vibrancy that sometimes can only be expressed in long exposures.Editing
For this I used a couple of bracketed exposures and manually blended them with masks in photoshop. In my camera bag
I carry, a telephoto 70-200mm, a 24-70mm zoom, and a 24 tilt-shift, and a carbon fiber tripod -- it is worth the expense, which you'll gladly appreciate after a 5 hour trek in the mountains.Feedback
Try to get your composition and perspective right before even thinking about clicking the shutter. Walk the area, crane your neck and crouch down low, soak up the space with your eyeballs before reaching for your camera bag. The visual image needs to be imprinted in your brain before a single ray of light touches the sensor. Remember you're not taking a snap shot you're making an image.
