Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a pottery village in Abuja, Nigeria.

Time

It is interesting that this was unplanned, a last shot at the end of the day about evening time.

Lighting

I loved this woman's face and the quiet strength in her eyes. I wanted the light falling on her to give her more of a magical, mysterious glow so I made her sit just so the evening sunlight fell on her in subtle tones.

Equipment

I simply had my Canon 7D and its kit lens - 28-135mm.

Inspiration

I saw this elderly woman doing her work of creating pottery and she seemed regal even though she was definitely not rich in material things.

Editing

The time of shooting this image, I had not learned Photoshop so I edited in Lightroom to enhance colors, deepen shadows.

In my camera bag

I always shoot in the studio so I don't have need a bag! But if I had to go on location, my Canon 7D and Sigma 50mm lens.

Feedback

I would say, always look around for the final shot. Sometimes you think you're done, dont be quick to pack up and leave. Pause, let your eyes scan the scene and you will be surprised what inspiration hits.
