Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this at the Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland Florida. Its just an amazing building with so many curves and shapes you could get lost in the lens.

Time

I shot this late in the day as the sun was setting.

Lighting

The late sun provided a nice tint on the white structure and offset the beautiful sky as the background. It just fit together like a glove.

Equipment

I use Sony equipment and shot this with my A77 Mark II with a 2.8/16-50 SSM wide angle lens.

Inspiration

Driving by this building the first time and seeing it from the highway I was immediately in love with it. The next trip back I brought my equipment and stopped and asked security if I could take some shots. 3 hours later this was one of the results.

Editing

I did very little post processing on this shot, cropping mostly and a slight contrast adjustment with the B/W.

In my camera bag

I use Sony equipment - A77 Mark II and an A58 set up for macro shots a lot of the time. Multiple lenses, flashes, and some filters are at hand for shoots.

Feedback

As hard as it is for some people, try and be patient with lighting especially natural lighting. I must have shot this same angle no less than 50 times over a 3 hour time frame and it looked more amazing each time the sun set lower. I loved the angle of the shot as the building curved around and disappeared and just had to hold on for the perfect light. Try to find something that catches your eye and imagine the shot before taking it. Try different angles and lighting, standing on objects to get a different angle or move to get better lighting or wait for it to come to you. Thanks to the Viewbug judges for making the finalist again with this shot.
