Location
This tower is in Huddersfield and is called Castle Hill. It looks across Huddersfield and gives magnificent views over the entire area, as it is the highest point for miles.Time
This was taken around 3/4pm during autumn so it was getting on for sunset.Lighting
As I said it was getting on for sunset so the light was a little more dramatic.Equipment
I was out actually trying a new tripod which was essential for this capture (see post processing).Inspiration
On this day we had decided to visit Castle Hill to try and get some sunset shots while testing the new tripod. The lighting conditions were testing as there was a lot of cloud cover which eventually made the sunset shot impossible. Castle Hill lends it self for dramatic shots at nearly anytime of year but what made this day memorable was the wind at times it was 50mph+ which made standing hard (notice the three figures sheltering by the tower) but this gave an amazing structure to the cloudsEditing
This was a 3 shot HDR processed in photoshop with just a couple of extra tweets. Without the use of a tripod this would have made editing much harder. In my camera bag
My camera bag now contains my Nikon D5100, Nikkor 18-55mm, Nikkor 55-300 mm, A set of high quality extension tubes, A set of ND filter, a Gloxy 990 flashgun, and my trusty tripod (even though it's not always needed)Feedback
This was a right time right place, the place is not going anywhere so we can return at any time but that day with the clouds and winds will never be the same. Make sure you take your camera everywhere you never know when the weather conditions will be just right!
